Rosemary Dicarlo, the UN under-secretary-general, confirmed today that the position of the United Nations towards the occupied Syrian Golan Heights is based on the relevant Security Council and General Assembly resolutions. In a briefing to the Security Council on the situations in Syria, she said that "we ought to avoid any misunderstanding or actions that would further aggravate the situations. In this regard, the Secretary General was briefed on the developments concerning the occupied Syrian Golan". She added that UN efforts to facilitate the political process in Syria in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution No. 2254, would proceed to support the principles of Syria's sovereignty, independence and regional integrity.
