Football's world controlling body, FIFA, on Friday decided that they would play an active part in the organisation of the 2010 World Cup, which will be staged in South Africa. In a statement issued by the organisation after Friday's meeting of their emergency committee, FIFA said that they would open an office in South Africa early next year. "The committee approved the foundation of a special operational FIFA organisational structure for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa," the statement said. At previous World Cup competitions, FIFA has not played such a role as the local organising committee was responsible for the staging of the tournament, using strict guidelines set our by FIFA. There was good news for the Kenyan Football Association, whose suspension from the organisation was provisionally lifted, allowing the East African country to start campaigning in the qualifying rounds for 2006 tournament. Kenya was earlier suspended from FIFA after the government wanted to take over the running of the football association. --MORE 2354 Local Time 2054 GMT
