Greek Olympic officials dismissed claims on Wednesday that the American volleyball team was unhappy with the accommodation at the Olympic Village and has decided to leave. Greek security officials told Deutsche Presse-Agentur, dpa, on condition of anonymity, that the American team had checked into the village on Tuesday and athletes had received their accreditation. Sources said the team then departed to train for one week elsewhere in Greece and would return to the village for the Games. According to the source, teams from other countries had done the same but had decided to make the Olympic Village their permanent residence while in Greece. The Olympic Village, located in the foothills of Mount Parnitha, is among the most secure venues in Athens. The village will host athletes from a record 202 countries taking part in the Games.
