BASF, the world's biggest chemicals group, lifted revenues 12.9 per cent in the second quarter to 9.3 billion euros (11.2 billion dollars) and brightened its forecast Wednesday for the full year. Earnings before major taxes rose 68.8 per cent year on year to 1.15 billion euros, while earnings after tax and adjustments for joint ventures more than tripled to 634 million euros, BASF said from its headquarters in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Chief executive Juergen Hambrecht said he expected the improvement to carry over to the full year. BASF said it anticipated continued high demand for its chemical products for the rest of the year, although with some moderation compared to the first half. In April, BASF had forecast only slightly improved full-year sales compared to last year's 33.4 billion euros.
