Shares of ChevronTexaco jumped $1.77 to $98.25, while Exxon Mobil rose 53 cents to $46.78. The S&P oil and gas producers index hit 262.99 on Tuesday, surpassing its life-time high. Traders said that while oil is a concern, all eyes were on the U.S. employment data due out on Friday. Economists expect July nonfarm payrolls -- a key measure of the economy's strength -- to rise by 228,000 jobs after June's gain of 112,000.
