Asian stock markets closed mostly higher Tuesday, but prices fell in Tokyo in the absence of fresh market-moving news. Tokyo's Nikkei Stock Average of 225 issues dropped 81.67 points, or 0.73 percent, to 11,140.57. On Monday, the index fell 103.54 points, or 0.91 percent. The Nikkei opened higher after traders in Tokyo were relieved by Wall Street's strength amid the weekend U.S. terror warning. The United States on Sunday issued a new warning of possible terrorist attacks against "iconic" financial institutions in New York City, Washington and Newark, New Jersey. Prices fell back at midmorning as investors sold technology issues amid lack of fresh market-moving news. Weakness in the stock futures market also triggered selling in the cash market, as traders searched for arbitrage opportunities. Wall Street on Monday shrugged off concerns about a possible terrorist attack and pushed stocks higher following an upbeat earnings report from Procter & Gamble Co. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 39.45 or 0.4 percent, at 10,179.16. The Nasdaq composite index gained 4.73 or 0.3 percent at 1,892.09. In currency trading, the U.S. dollar was quoted was quoted at 110.92 yen, down 0.04 yen from late Monday in Tokyo but above the 110.67 yen it bought in New York later that day. --more 1426 Local Time 1126 GMT
