Rescuers were dispatched on Tuesday to look for villagers missing in a landslide in Indonesia's West Java province as the death toll rose from two to nine, an official said, according to dpa. The landslide, which was triggered by torrential rain, hit Sirnaresmi village in Sukabumi district on Monday at 5:30 pm and buried 30 houses, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a spokesman for Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency. The disaster has affected a total of 107 people, he added. "As of 11:45 (am), 34 people are still unaccounted for, while 60 villagers are safe. There are four people injured and they are receiving medical treatment at a hospital," Nugroho said. He added that more landslides of lesser intensity, heavy rain and muddy soil as well as patchy electricity and telecommunications networks are hampering the search operation, which continued Tuesday morning after it was halted overnight.
