Heads of Red Crescent societies in GCC countries held a meeting here on Thursday amid hopes that planned resolutions would pave the way for boosting joint humanitarian action among them. In his keynote statement at the meeting, convened at Kuwait Red Crescent Society's headquarters, the society deputy chairman Anwar Al-Hasawi, said the relief associations in the GCC member countries have been working in harmony, according to accords and common principles. According to KUNA, he lauded the GCC General Secretariat for playing a key role in coordinating work among these societies during catastrophes and humanitarian missions. Al-Hasawi indicated that such close coordination among the GCC Red Crescent societies became quite vital, at the backdrop of regional conflicts that resulted in large numbers of refugees, relocated and orphans. The meeting, he continues, is an annual opportunity to examine accomplishments, humanitarian needs and challenges in afflicted countries. Meanwhile, Khalifa Al-Abri, the GCC assistant secretary general for economic affairs, lauded the cooperation among these societies and thanked the Bahraini association for chairing the committee's past session.
