The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Maalami, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Syria for his valuable briefing to the Security Council and his efforts to find a way out of the Syrian crisis, expressing his regret at the inability of the envoy to reach a political settlement because of the intransigence of the Syrian regime. In his address to the Security Council, Ambassador Al-Maalemi said that Saudi Arabia supports all international and regional efforts to end the conflict in Syria and believes that the solution to the Syrian crisis will not be through military operations or chemical weapons, which have exposed the country and the Syrian people to the worst forms of destruction. He added that the political solution is the only solution to the Syrian crisis, which is based on Security Council Resolution 2254. The envoy criticized the Syrian regime's intransigence, delay and hindering of the international parties' efforts in this regard. The envoy highlighted Saudi aid for the Syrians. On behalf of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Ambassador refused interference in Syria by the Iranian regime in any way and called for the departure of Iran and the withdrawal of its Revolutionary Guard and its sectarian militias now and immediately and leaving Syria to the Syrians. The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom concluded by saying that the world must realize that the time has come to change the sad reality in Syria and that the international community will work seriously and resolutely to advance the political process so that we can redress what can be remedied and lift Syria out of the devastation caused by it. The immoral and immoral actions that this miserable regime has carried out in the face of terrorism and forgetting that it has provided fertile ground for the spread of terrorism in Syria and to allow the entry of the greatest sponsor of terrorism (the Iranian regime) in Syria.
