Landmine Victims: What did I do to Deserve Losing my Leg?
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 24 - 06 - 2018

Ever since he was a little boy, Ahmad Salam Ahmad ALasbahy (33 years old) dreamed of inventing a hydropower electrical generator for his small village. His little dream was scattered into pieces when he stepped on a rock with a landmine beneath it hidden by criminals.
Ahmad was unconscious due to the explosion; he woke up in the hospital to find himself surrounded by doctors. When he tried to move his limbs he was shocked to find out he lost his right foot.
Ahmad later learned that he fell into a mine field planted by Houthi militia terrorists in an area full of civilians who harmed humans and even animals.
Ahmad says:"days went by while I'm on the hospital bed desperately watching my damaged leg day after day, I was trying to resist that disability, it was then when I felt desperately helpless".
He added:"I tried to sit in a chair next to me like I am not damaged, listening to stories from people in our city who lost their limbs or devastated their lives by Houthi Militias. I sat there listening closely to a man near me describing the landmine and the militias with the worst words, I tried to cross my legs but I realized they weren't what I'm used to, the feeling I had then almost broke me down".
He continues:"the help we received from King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center to provide me with a prosthetic leg was very generous. They issued a visa for me, flew me to get the surgery, provided me with pocket money and they were generous enough to provide me and all the other injured with high quality German prosthetic limbs". Ahmad called for removing all the landmines from Yemen and to scan the freed areas for mines as there are no maps indicating their locations.
