Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, President of the Human Rights Commission, chaired the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's delegation to present the Kingdom's 3rd and 4th reports with regard to Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) within 69th session of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women. During his speech, Dr. Al-Aiban affirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdualziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, seeks to achieve aspirations of the Saudi people in line of its active role at regional and international arenas. "With regard to the Kingdom Vision 2030 with its ambitious programs as well as economic and developmental initiatives in all aspects of life and a woman as a main partner in the development, the Saudi woman plays a main role in succeeding these programs and initiatives. To empower the woman playing her developmental role, the Saudi state implemented a package of reforms and altered regulations in order to support her in accordance with the religious fundamentals, social values and moderation approach," Al-Aiban said. He added that the Saudi woman enjoys many factors, including political will, economic capabilities and community awareness of the importance of women's role in the development in addition to the qualified female cadres and the desire of the Saudi government to apply the best international practices in building a better future. He stressed that the Kingdom Vision 2030 included plans and programs that contribute to the promotion and protection of the human rights, including the rights of woman. Dr. Al-Aiban said that the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women is the most important legal basis for the promotion and protection of women's rights under the international human rights law. He confirmed that it is the most comprehensive convention covering this important aspect, based on the nature of its provisions. " The efforts exerted by your committee contribute to the ideal application of the convention's provisions through effective tools, including: studying reports and asking questions within framework of the lists of issues and constructive interactive dialogue. While we appreciate these efforts, we stress that my government attaches great importance to all notes and general recommendations made by the Committee, Al-Aiban added. --More 19:43 LOCAL TIME 16:43 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1730036
