At least three of the four militants who stormed a major luxury hotel in Kabul have now been killed, a local official confirmed early Sunday, according to dpa. Basir Mujahid, a spokesman for Kabul police, said that security forces have completed clearing the fourth floor of the five-storey Hotel Intercontinental. He also said at least two explosions took place in the area but their causes were not clear. People who were trapped inside during the militant attack, which started on Saturday night, have been rescued by Afghan security forces, Mujahid said. Earlier, Nasrat Rahimi, a spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry said that five people injured in the attack had been transferred to hospitals. Rahimi said gunfire continued in the hotel, adding that participants of a wedding ceremony there had been brought to safety.
