French authorities recalled batches of baby milk on Saturday after 20 infants, all aged less than six months, were infected with the salmonella bacteria, according to dpa. The recall concerned three specific batches of baby milk products manufactured between mid-July and mid-November at a factory belonging to Lactalis Nutrition Sante, the French Health Ministry said in a statement. Other batches of the same products were safe, the ministry added. Families using the products, two of which were specific formulas for infants allergic to lactose, were advised to contact their doctors for advice about an alternative. The ministry said that salmonella poisoning occurs within three days of consuming infected items. Symptoms are gastroenteritis, accompanied by vomiting, diarrhoea and - in most cases - fever. Parents whose infants suffered such symptoms should consult a doctor, the ministry said.
