Shares rose in Asia on Monday, AP reported. Japan's Nikkei 225 index added 0.5 percent to 21,255.56 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index surged 0.9 percent to 28,733.93. South Korea's Kospi rose 0.3 percent to 2,480.05 and the S&P ASX/200 advanced 0.6 percent to 5,846.80. The Shanghai Composite index slipped 0.1 percent to 3,386.51 and shares in Southeast Asia were higher. Benchmark U.S. crude oil picked up 42 cents to $51.87 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It gained 85 cents, or 1.7 percent, to $51.45 a barrel on Friday. Brent crude, used to price international oils, climbed 67 cents to $57.84 per barrel. It gained 92 cents, or 1.6 percent, to $57.17 a barrel in London. The dollar slid to 111.77 yen from 111.82 yen. The euro dipped to $1.1796 from $1.1820.
