The United States welcomed the United Nations Declaration on September 20 about the plan of action to promote political reconciliation in Libya and help the Libyan people to achieve lasting peace and security. A statement issued by State Department spokesman Heather Nauert said that the United States praises the active awareness of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ghassan Salama to the Libyan leaders, calling on all Libyans to support and participate in mediation efforts. Nauert added that the Libyan political agreement is still the framework for political solution to the crisis throughout the transitional period, stressing the US support for the Libyan people to make the transition by negotiations, and adopting a new constitution for the country.
