Japan and the European Union are set to reach a broad agreement on a free trade deal after "significant" progress, the two sides said late Saturday. "There has been significant progress but important issues that the two sides need to work on still remain," Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida told reporters late Saturday, after two days of talks with senior EU officials. According to dpa, the two sides remain apart over tariffs on cars and farm and dairy products such as cheese. Kishida added he would visit Brussels for "final confirmation" before Japanese and EU leaders meet on the eve of the G20 meeting next week in Germany.
