Sixteen people were killed in a series of suicide bombings between Sunday night and Monday morning in Maiduguri in north-eastern Nigeria, a police spokesman said. According to dpa, the fatalities included seven suicide bombers, Victor Eda said in a statement. The worst attacks occurred in Zanari on the outskirts of the city of Maiduguri, where two female bombers targeted residential houses, killing themselves and eight others. Another female and a male suicide bomber died following injuries they sustained in other explosions in Zanari. The University of Maiduguri also came under attack twice. The first two explosions on the university premises killed the two female bombers, while the third killed a male bomber and a female security guard. Maiduguri had already suffered two major attacks this month, each of which killed 17 people. The radical group Boko Haram claimed responsibility for one of the attacks.
