Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues at local, regional and international arenas. Al-Yaum and Al-Riyadh newspapers wrote about Qatar, saying that it was not expected that Qatar relinquishes its Gulf and Arab affiliation so quickly despite the statements made by Qatari prominent figures noting that Qatar has been keen on friendly and fraternal relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries because we all believe that our destiny is one and we are affected by the crises surrounding our region". The papers indicated that the ink of these Qatari statements has not barely dried up until we heard about the telephone conversation between the Emir of Qatar and the Iranian president in which he said that "Our relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are long-standing, historical and well-established and we call for further strengthening of these relations''. The papers pointed out that the strengthening of Doha's relations with Tehran in current difficult circumstances in the region where Iran's terrorist crimes are taking place in Bahrain, Yemen, Iraq and Syria raises many questions about Doha's loyalty to the covenants of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for Arab States and its adoption of the hopes and aspirations of their citizens.
