Al-Houthi and ousted Saleh coup militias have violated more than 750 mosques in Yemen ranging from complete bombing, shelling by heavy weapons, and looting their contents, in addition to using some mosques as places for eating Qatt and barracks for armed militias of Al-Houthi and ousted Saleh. A report prepared by the program of communication with Yemeni scholars monitored the violations of coup militias in a survey covering the years 2013, 2014, 2015, until the end of 2016, revealed Houthis' bombing of mosques, showing the ideological, intellectual and cultural dimensions of their wars, indicating that the mosques of Sa'ada governorate and the Capital Secretariat suffered the largest proportion of Houthi violations including 282 mosques in the Capital Secretariat and 115 in Sa'ada Governorate. The report pointed out that the mosques that were blown up by the Houthis amounted to 80 mosques and bombarded by tanks and heavy weapons reached 41, while they stormed and abused 117 mosques and turned 157 mosques into military barracks where they took Qatt, Hubble bubble and drug smelling. It revealed that the putschists blew up and attacked 14 schools and houses for memorization of the Holy Quran. The report noted that Al-Houthis kidnapped 150 imams and preachers of mosques and tortured them including 69 in the Capital Secretariat and Sana'a Governorate, 29 in Hodeidah governorate and 25 in Ibb governorate, indicating that the putschists blow up the houses of dignitaries and opposing scholars.
