3 UN agencies voiced an urgent call here today for raising a fund of as many as $ 1.2 billion, in order to save over than 7 million Yemeni's lives. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Program, issued a joint statement on the situation of food security and nutrition, in Yemen. Number of people who are facing the hazards of absence of food security, in Yemen, has risen by 3 million to 17.1 million, in a period of only 7 months, with no access to food, whatsoever, the statement stated. Among this grotesque number of 17.1 million suffering lack of food security, there are 7.3 million who are in need for a very urgent food assistance to be deliverThese agencies' estimate have shown that the rates of acute and severe malnutrition has crossed the critical level, in four governorates, while agricultural production is decreasing, across the country, the statement concluded.
