Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge warned clubs could revolt in response to football governing body FIFA expanding the World Cup to 48 teams from 2026, dpa reported. "Fundamentally I'm not a fan of revolutions because they usually end in blood. But I fear that it will inevitably result in a revolution," Rummenigge told Germany's Fussball Bild magazine on Saturday. Rummenigge also leads the influential European Club Association which has consistently opposed expanding the World Cup. "The big clubs and also the leagues will perhaps ask some time: 'Do we really need FIFA and its curious decisions, which at the end of the day only strain, not serve, football?'" he added. The present 32-team World Cup format will remain for the 2018 and 2022 editions in Russia and Qatar respectively.
