Representative Paul Ryan was re-elected speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives for the 115th Congress on Tuesday as a Republican-led legislature began a new session. Ryan will serve his first full term as speaker after succeeding John Boehner in October 2015. He is expected to lead Republican efforts to repeal President Barack Obama's landmark healthcare reforms and cut taxes and regulations. Ryan received 239 votes, all from Republicans. Democrats nominated former Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the top position, and she received 189 votes. Four other Democratic lawmakers received a total of five votes.
