Italy's outgoing foreign minister Paolo Gentiloni was asked Sunday to form a new government by President Sergio Mattarella, making him Italy's prime minister designate and ending a week-old political crisis. The 62-year-old is set to replace Matteo Renzi, who quit four days ago after a resounding defeat in a December 4 referendum on constitutional reforms, of which the outgoing premier had been the chief sponsor.
