Waves could reach 1 to 3 metres above the tide level in the Solomon Islands, after a magnitude-7.8 earthquake in the Pacific archipelago, the International Tsunami Information Center says, according to dpa. "Based on all available data, hazardous tsunami waves are forecast for some coasts," the centre says. Tsunamis up to 1 metre are possible for parts of Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu, with many other Pacific coasts - including parts of Australia, Fiji, Guam, Indonesia, the Marshall Islands, New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga. There is no risk on the West Coast of North America, the centre says.
