The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has chaired the 8th meeting of the Task Team of International Communications Union Council in charge of world internet policies, held in Geneva in the presence of the union's secretary general, his deputy and senior officials, it was reported here today. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the council in Geneva last Friday. In a statement, head of the team Eng. Majed bin Mohammed Al-Mazyad, who is also the acting assistant deputy governor of the communications and information technology commission for technical affairs and secretary of the national committee for information society, said that the Kingdom's chairmanship of this international team for the eighth year in a row embodies its status in the international communications union and role in the fields related to internet development and policies at the regional and international arenas. During the meeting, issues relating to enhancing security and confidence as well as privacy, information and personal data protection on the internet and considering enacting international organizational frameworks to preserve the rights of users were discussed, he said. As many as 49 agencies from 23 countries, including the U.S., Britain, Poland, Japan, Russia, Qatar and Morocco and other countries have joined a questionnaire on ways to promote and enhance internet management and government role in building a better internet environment.
