French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault warned in Moscow on Thursday that indiscriminate bombing of the Syrian city of Aleppo pushes members of the local populace to join terrorist groups, dpa reported. "By conducting blind airstrikes on Aleppo, on its civilian population, the Syrian regime only feeds, supports, the serious process of radicalizing of those who are not yet involved with terrorism," Ayrault said in comments carried by the Interfax news agency. "These bombings create new militants. This needs to stop," Ayrault told reporters after a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, during which he pushed for a new ceasefire in Aleppo. Russia has come under fire for its continued backing of Syria's president, Bashar al-Assad, and its own role in the bombardment of Aleppo. The northern city is one of Syria's most populous. Parts of the city are controlled by the government, while others are held by opposition groups.
