The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regretted the failure of the meeting of the Conference on the Review of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons for the year 2015 to reach a final document, emphasizing the legitimate right of the countries in the region in the peaceful use of nuclear energy in accordance with the standards, procedures and supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency. This came in the kingdom's speech delivered today by Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom's delegation to the United Nations adviser Saad bin Abdullah al-Saad before the First Committee during the 71st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations. Al-Saad said that many regions are experiencing success in the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones thanks to the cooperation of the countries of these regions ... and we find the Middle East failing the international and regional efforts to make it a nuclear-free zone, due to Israel's refusal of any effort in this regard, adding that it is regrettable that Israel stands as a barrier to the realization of the desire of the peoples of the region to live in a free of nuclear terror zone. Al-Saad highlighted the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's emphasis on the importance of implementing the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. Al-Saad pointed out the importance of activating the United Nations program to prevent illicit trafficking in small and light arms. Al-Saad stated that the Kingdom emphasizes the importance of continued use of outer space for peaceful purposes only.
