International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach opened the Olympic Truce Wall on Monday in the athletes' village for the Rio de Janeiro Games, according to dpa. Bach unveiled and signed the wall alongside former IOC president Jacques Rogge, Rio organizing committee president Carlos Nuzman, and Olympic Village mayor Janeth Arcain. The tradition of the truce, or ekecheiria, was to allow safe travel to and from the ancient Olympic Games. The Olympic Truce has by now been restarted, and around 180 nations have supported the 2016 truce, formulated in conjunction with the United Nations.
