Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said Sunday that militants who blew up oil pipelines the previous day would not go unpunished, dpa reported. "If the militants and vandals are testing our resolve, they are much mistaken. We shall apprehend the perpetrators and their sponsors and bring them to justice," Buhari said in a broadcast to the nation. The militant Niger Delta Avengers blew up important oil pipelines in the oil-rich Niger Delta region on Saturday, government sources in Bayelsa state confirmed to Nigeria's NAN news agency. The militants are demanding a greater share of the oil wealth for the local population and an autonomous government. Nigeria, Africa's largest economy, is dependent on oil and gas for 70 per cent of state income.
