Forty-three proposals related to preparing for an Olympics hosting bid were approved Tuesday by the Paris city council, according to dpa. The proposals are aimed at making Paris an attractive host site for the 2024 Olympic Games, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. Proposals that were approved included plans to clean up the Seine river that runs through central Paris, and create a high-speed transit line to connect games sites throughout the city. France's bid organizers for the games have said their priority is on creating a proposal that is focused on being green and democratic. "The bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games is a fantastic opportunity for Paris to advance its sporting infrastructure but also to build a sustainable, creative and vibrant global city," said Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo in a statement. Paris is competing alongside Rome, Los Angeles and Budapest to host the 2024 Games. Its last four bid proposals failed to bring the games to France. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is due to elect the host city in September 2017.
