Polling precincts opened Monday all over the Philippines for millions of Filipinos voters to elect a new president and tens of thousands of other officials, according to dpa. More than 54 million Filipinos who are registered to vote have until 5 pm (0900 GMT) to choose among five candidates vying to be the next leader of the predominantly Catholic country. Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is leading the presidential race, according to surveys. Administration candidate Mar Roxas and first-time Senator Grace Poe are in a statistical tie at second place, while Vice President Jejomar Binay and Senator Miriam Santiago are trailing behind.
