The U.N. aid chief said Tuesday that the humanitariansituation is "extremely dire" in the Syrian town of Daraya, besieged by thegovernment, amid severe shortages of food and medicines. U.N. Emergency Relief CoordinatorStephen O'Brien told reporters in Geneva that Syrian authorities have notresponded to "countless requests" for permission to deliver relief supplies tothe town of about 4,000 people, southwest of Damascus. "We will continue to press theSyrian authorities relentlessly for us to have that safe unimpeded access toDaraya," O'Brien said.
