Toyota Motor said Sunday it would suspend the assembly of vehicles in stages in Japan because of parts shortages caused by the two large earthquakes that struck the island of Kyushu, dpa reported. The world's largest carmaker said in a statement it would first shut down production at a plant in Kyushu on Monday, followed by others through Friday. Resumption of operations will depend on the availability of parts, Toyota said. The quakes hit the island Thursday evening and early Saturday, killing 41 people in Kumamoto prefecture.
