Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni arrived in the Libyan capital Tripoli Tuesday to hold talks with the new head of the UN-backed government Fayez Sarraj, dpa quoted the Libyan News Agency LANA as saying. Gentiloni is the first senior Western official to visit Libya since Sarraj took up the role last month. "I am delighted to be in Tripoli for Italy's emergency aid and to support Sarraj's Government of National Accord," he said on his Twitter account. Under UN-brokered and internationally backed plans to resolve Libya's civil strife, a Government of National Accord headed by Sarraj is to replace both the Tripoli-based government and its centrist rival based in the eastern city of Tobruk.
