Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has congratulated Prince Bandar bin Saud bin Mohammed, President of Saudi Wildlife Authority (SWA) and its staff, on the occasion of Saudi Mahazat Al-Sayd Wildlife Sanctuary's wining of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for Arab States Award as the best wildlife sanctuary in the Council. This came in a reply cable sent by the King to Prince Bandar bin Saud bin Mohammed. With a 220 km fence completely surrounding its (2553 square kilometers) area, Mahazat Al-Sayd Wildlife Sanctuary was established for the initial reintroduction of bred Arabian Oryx into their natural habitat. The first release of this rare and beautiful animal began in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in December 1988. Houbra Bustards, Gazelles and Ostriches are being reintroduced in Mahazat Al-Sayd Wildlife Sanctuary.
