The United States will deploy an armoured brigade combat team to Eastern Europe as Washington bolsters its presence in the region to counter a more aggressive Russia, the military said Wednesday, according to dpa. The United States' European Command said the rotating troop presence beginning in 2017 would bring the total US strength in the region to three Army brigades. "This Army implementation plan continues to demonstrate our strong and balanced approach to reassuring our NATO allies and partners in the wake of an aggressive Russia in Eastern Europe and elsewhere," General Philip Breedlove said. "This means our allies and partners will see more capability - they will see a more frequent presence of an armoured brigade with more modernized equipment in their countries." The deployment is part of plans announced in February to beef up the US military presence in Europe.
