China's environment minister vowed to step up the fight against pollution plaguing the country Friday, dpa reported. China will battle "on all fronts" against the smog and "step by step we will solve the problem," Chen Jining said on the sidelines of the National People's Congress in Beijing. As much as 70 per cent of China's population lives in regions where levels of PM2.5 - airborne particles smaller than 2.5 micrometres - exceed World Health Organization recommendations, according to the National Resources Defense Council, an international environmental group.
