A new secretary general to replace Dr. Nabil Al-Araby will be selected at an extraordinary meeting of the Arab League Council at the foreign ministers level on March 10, 2016, it was announced here today. Ahmed bin Hali, the Deputy Secretary General of the AL, said in a statement that upon a proposal from Egypt and according to the organization's statute, the Secretariat General has decided to hold an extraordinary meeting for the Arab League's council to choose a new secretary general to replace Al-Araby would declared that he would not run for a second term following the end of his current first term on June 30. Hali said Egypt's proposal has received the acceptance of several countries including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Bahrain. Other countries sent verbal approvals so far, he added. Egypt said it would announce its nominee for the portfolio within the coming few days.
