Authorities have cleared most of the wreckage from a head-on collision of two trains in southern Germany but the track will likely remain closed until at least the end of the week, German train operator Deutsche Bahn said Sunday, according to dpa. Two commuter trains carrying a total of 150 people collided head-on at full speed on a single-track line near the Bavarian town of Bad Aibling early Tuesday, killing 11 people. Before the track can reopen, repairs are needed and one wagon still needs to be removed from the site. Track repairs will begin Monday morning, the train operator said. Investigators will then simulate a head-on collision using two slow-moving trains, to test the automatic brake system and look for clues into the cause of the crash, the police said. Finally the train operator has to test whether the track is suitable for use, before opening the stretch for regular use again.
