U.S. stocks closed mostly lower Wednesday as investors digested remarks from Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair Janet Yellen. In U.S. economic news, Yellen gave remarks to Congress in which she noted that, if the economy were to disappoint, the Fed would have to reconsider its rate hike path. The dollar fell about 0.3 percent against a basket of currencies. Light sweet crude oil for February delivery lost 49 cents to $27.45 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while gold futures dropped $4 to $1,194.60 an ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average declined 49, or 0.3 percent, to 15,963. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 7, or 0.4 percent, to 1,859. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index gained 38, or 0.89 percent, to 4,307.
