The High Representative of the European Union's foreign policy Federica Mogherini has commended the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in gathering Syrian opposition factions and advancing a political settlement to the crisis in Syria. She said during a press conference in Brussels on the sidelines of the meetings of European foreign ministers: "After Riyadh meeting, it became clear to us that this delegation was more comprehensive than expected by Europeans." She expressed her hope that the next Geneva Conference will represent an essential pillar to see the extent of the political will available to each of the conflicting parties in Syria to work on resolving the conflict. It recognized that the process in Syria will not be quick or easy, stressing that the role of the European Union will include the provision of logistical, diplomatic and political support to the United Nations Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura, as well as providing support for the Syrian opposition to prepare for the negotiations.
