The U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) marked World Science Day Tuesday, urging governments to "do everything to support societies across the world, on every continent, to create and share knowledge." UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova said in her message for the day that "science stands at its heart as a force for positive transformation and a development multiplier." This year, the UNESCO World Science Report, which is issued every five years, was launched on World Science Day to identify trends in science, technology, and innovation. "The key message of the report can be summarized in just four words: more research - better development," the agency said.
