AlHijjah 29, 1436, Oct 13, 2015, SPA -- Guinea's recent presidential election was characterized by logistical difficulties and marred by violence in the run-up, the head of an EU observer team said Tuesday according to dpa. The violence ahead of the election that caused the deaths of at least nine people was "regrettable," but, despite this, Guineans had shown a commitment to democracy on the day of the vote, Frank Engel said in a statement. "Despite a tense electoral context, the enthusiasm of citizens coming to vote in peace has not wavered throughout the day, revealing the maturity and democratic commitment of the Guinea people," Engel said. Guinea's opposition said Monday it will not accept the results of the presidential election, alleging massive fraud and calling for a new vote.
