Kingdom's position towards the crisis in Syria and Assad, in particular, will not change and the best for Syria is a political solution based on Geneva 1, Al-Jubeir says
AlHijjah,1436 , 12 October,2015, SPA -- Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir explained that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is seeking to strengthen its relations with Russia to orchestrate with the size of the two countries and their political and economic role in the world as is the case with all the countries of the world. In a statement yesterday during a joint press conference with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Sochi, Al-Jubeir described the meeting between Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Crown Prince, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense, and the Russian President Vladimir Putin as positive, constructive, frank and to-the-point. He pointed out that the talks dealt with many things, both in the bilateral sphere between the two countries, military cooperation and the joint fight against terrorism as well as political coordination in matters of the region, whether in Yemen or the situation in Syria in particular. Al-Jubeir said that during the meeting, Saudi Arabia voiced concern over Russian military operations in Syria and questioned whether such activity would be translated as an alliance with Iran, Hezbollah and Bashar with the Russian side reassuring that the goal of the operations is to fight ISIS terrorists. He stressed that precisely the position of the Kingdom towards the crisis in Syria and Bashar al-Assad will not change and said the Kingdom believes that the best solution in Syria will be built on the principles of Geneva 1, which calls for the establishment of a shared transitional authority between Damascus regime and the opposition to run the country's affairs, prepare everything for new elections, draft a new constitution and send Bashar al-Assad home without any role for him in Syria's new future. He explained that the Kingdom will continue to support the Syrian moderate opposition and is keen to see no role for Bashar al-Assad in Syria's future, noting that new ideas were discussed between the two parties about how to activate and apply the principles of Geneva including the creation of a mechanism to reach the common goal between the two parties constituted in a unified state of Syria in which all components are guaranteed to enjoy rights and equality. The Foreign Minister looked forward to find the appropriate solution to Syria which guarantees the unity of the country, maintains military and civilian institutions, and preserves all rights of its people, pointing out that the Russian Foreign Minister said that the Russian President and the Deputy Crown Prince agreed consultation be intensified and mutual visits exchanged among officials of the two governments in different sectors. --More 19:54 LOCAL TIME 16:54 GMT تغريد
