AlHijjah 22, 1436, October 06, 2015, SPA -- A commercial US airplane made an emergency landing in upstate New York Monday after the pilot died during the flight, local media reported, according to dpa. An overnight American Airlines flight from Phoenix, Arizona, to Boston was diverted to Syracuse, New York, after the co-pilot notified traffic controllers on the ground that the pilot had a medical emergency, Boston's local WBZ-TV reported. "A medical emergency. Captain is incapacitated," the co-pilot told the control tower in Syracuse before requesting permission to land, according to a transcript obtained by the station. The plane, which had five crew members and 147 passengers aboard, landed safely. A replacement crew was en route to Syracuse to take passengers to Boston, according to the news portal Syracuse.com. The airline did not confirm the cause of the death. "This is a terribly sad event and American Airlines is focused on caring for the pilot's family at this time, as well as the American Airlines staff and passengers on board the flight," a spokeswoman for the airline said.
