AlHijjah 8, 1436, Sep 22, 2015, SPA -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday called on the United States to take in more asylum seekers as Europe struggles to respond to its biggest influx of migrants since World War II. The US could take in more refugees from Syria as well as help improve living conditions for Syrians in refugee camps in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey, Merkel said, according to dpa. The German chancellor said she does not expect a quick fix to the refugee crisis at Wednesday's special summit of EU leaders. Germany is taking in the most asylum seekers in Europe, expecting to record 1 million this year. The United States said it would take in at least 10,000 Syrian refugees in the fiscal year that begins in October. They would be part of a total of 85,000 refugees expected in the US from across the globe that year. The White House also announced an additional 419 million dollars in humanitarian assistance to Syrian refugees on Monday. The fresh aid brings total US contributions to 4.5 billion dollars. -- SPA 00:56 LOCAL TIME 21:56 GMT تغريد
