AlHijjah 06, 1436, September 20, 2015, SPA -- Police in Belgium will start carrying out spot checks near the country's borders from next week in response to the migration crisis, Interior Minister Jan Jambon said Sunday, according to dpa. "We want to fight against smugglers and ensure that each refugee is registered," he said during a talk show on the broadcaster VRT. Police checks will also be carried out in other parts of Belgium as well as at airports and on trains. Belgium is not planning, however, to temporarily reintroduce border controls, Jambon said. Germany, Austria and Slovenia have taken this step in a bid to stem their flows of migrants and refugees. Belgium has seen a less significant influx than other European countries but still recorded 1,889 asylum applications this week alone, according to the Belga news agency.
