AlHijjah 03, 1436, September 17, 2015, SPA -- General Gilbert Diendiere has been appointed the head of a military council that has taken power in Burkina Faso, making him the country's new leader, a spokesman for the presidential guard announces on national television, dpa reported. Frontiers have been closed and a curfew imposed from 7 pm to 6 am. Diendiere headed the presidential guard under president Blaise Compaore, who ruled the West African country for 27 years until fleeing to Ivory Coast nearly a year ago.
