AlQa'dah 25, 1436, September 09, 2015, SPA -- The European Commission will take further action "in the days to come" against member states that are not implementing EU asylum rules, President Jean-Claude Juncker said during his state of the union speech to European Parliament, dpa reported. "It's a matter of credibility that member states are implementing and respecting commonly agreed international and European laws," he says, announcing a second round of infringement proceedings, which can ultimately lead to hefty fines for non-compliant countries. Juncker urges Europe not to be frightened by the streams of arriving asylum seekers, arguing that the continent has a historical responsibility to give refuge to those in need of international protection. "It is true that Europe cannot house all the misery of the world, but let us be honest and put things into perspective. There is certainly an important, an unprecedented number of refugees coming to Europe at the moment. However, they still represent just 0.11 per cent of the total EU population," he says.
