AlQa'dah 10, 1436, August 25, 2015, SPA -- Health authorities have released Sierra Leone's last known Ebola patient from hospital, aid organization Medicines Sans Frontieres (MSF) said Tuesday, according to dpa. The 35-year-old woman had been treated in Sierra Leone's northern district of Bombali, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). If no other Ebola cases are confirmed in the next 42 days, the West African nation will be declared free of the virus, which killed more than 11,000 people since the outbreak began in neighbouring Guinea in December 2013. "We still must ... maintain the momentum and vigilance to spot any unexpected case," said MSF coordinator in Sierra Leone, Jose Hulsenbek. "Last week Guinea recorded three new cases, and we know well that the virus knows no borders," Hulsenbek added. Sierra Leone is one of the countries hardest hit by an Ebola epidemic, with almost 13,500 reported infections and over 3,950 deaths. The worst Ebola outbreak so far infected nearly 28,000 people, mainly in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, according to the WHO.
